Patina & Finish Notes

Patinas are the combined result of ancient chemistry and natural forces. Some of these forces are controllable and some uncontrollable. The variation and surprise inherent in this process give us striking and deeply resonating color. Control is significant, so that we can achieve gorgeous variations within pleasing ranges. However, patination is not paint. We cannot capture or repeat an exact color or pattern. Patination is a real interaction between material, environment and artist.

All finishes are protected with satin lacquer and will remain stable when kept indoors. If the urn is placed outdoors then you must expect changes to the patina and protective finish to take place over time. Let me know if you intend to place the urn outdoors. I'll recommend, in that case, that we use a hard wax, instead of lacquer, which will allow the changes to take place naturally.
